Dryness & the skin barrier

Tightness after cleansing, flaking, stinging when you apply products. These are the skin barrier telling you it needs support.

What the barrier does

The outermost layer of skin works like a wall: cells held together by lipids that keep water in and irritants out. When that structure is intact, skin feels comfortable, looks smooth and tolerates active ingredients well.

What weakens it

Over-cleansing, hot water, too many actives at once, sun, pollution, air conditioning and professional procedures all draw on the barrier. Oily skin can be barrier-compromised too; dehydration isn't the same as dryness.

How to support repair

Simplify. Cleanse gently, moisturise morning and evening, protect with sunscreen, and pause strong actives until skin is comfortable again. Then reintroduce them slowly, one at a time.

SWSkinn provides skincare guidance, not medical diagnosis. If your skin is painful, worsening quickly or you're worried, please see a dermatologist.

Questions

Good to know

Can oily skin have a damaged barrier?

Yes. Oily skin can still lose water and feel tight or sensitive, especially with strong acne products. An oil-free barrier moisturiser helps without adding heaviness.

Can I use Restore after a dermatology procedure?

Restore is designed to support skin after common dermatology and aesthetic procedures. Always follow your dermatologist's aftercare advice first.

When is sensitivity a reason to see a doctor?

If you have swelling, blistering, severe pain, hives, or a reaction that spreads or affects your eyes, stop the product and seek medical advice promptly.
